STALKED | I am not normally a bird person, but whi STALKED | I am not normally a bird person, but while sitting in the hide at Jaci's Lodge, I was fascinated watching this Yellow-Billed Stork from water level. It would stalk around in the water edge, looking for something to eat and when he found it, aim his long bill over his prey and deliver a lightning flash assault before scooping his reward up in his bill and guzzling it down. From what I saw him take, small frogs seemed to be a favourite. Taking the time to just sit still and watch often delivers rewards, just like for this Yellow-Billed Stork. CHITTER | I first saw the rare African Wild Dogs ( CHITTER | I first saw the rare African Wild Dogs (also known as Painted Dogs) in Madikwe back in 1994 when they were still in a holding pen. This was because they were re-introduced back into the Madikwe Game Reserve in 1994 as part of Operation Phoenix. This highly endangered species number fewer than 5000 globally and can only be found in the larger reserves or in uninhabited regions of Southern and Eastern Africa. The founding group of 6 Madikwe Wild Dogs were drawn from a breeding station for rare and endangered species and from the wild near Kruger National Park. Now, back in Madikwe Game Reserve staying at Jaci's Lodge and I find these wild dogs. I always feel so honoured to see these magnificent animals in the wild and just love how they chitter amongst the pack, like excited kids. Their markings are so beautiful and unique, making them a photographers dream animal to capture.
