Avani+ Barbarons Seychelles has launched an exhilarating new freediving experience in partnership with Sophie Walsh—Seychelles’ first certified freediving instructor and national record-holder.
Set against the crystalline waters of Mahé, the program invites guests of all ages to explore the underwater world in a way that’s immersive, mindful, and deeply connected to nature.
Freediving offers a powerful alternative to traditional scuba diving, focusing on breath control, inner stillness, and harmony with the ocean. With three national records under her belt, including a personal best of 63 metres set at the AIDA July Blue Freediving Competition in Egypt, Sophie Walsh is a true ambassador for freediving. As the founder of Freediving Seychelles, she is passionate about making this discipline accessible, safe, and enriching for all experience levels.
At Avani+ Barbarons, Sophie is bringing this vision to life—introducing both newcomers and seasoned water lovers to the magic of breath-hold diving.
Freediving experiences for every level
The resort’s freediving program is designed to suit all abilities, offering a mix of introductory sessions, open-water dives, and full-day excursions. For beginners, pool-based classes provide the basics in a controlled environment, covering breathwork, equalisation, and safety techniques.
The highlight is a full-day boat trip to Beau Vallon, where participants freedive at two pristine locations—Baie Ternay Marine Park and Lilo’t Island. These sessions include training, equipment, and the opportunity to earn an internationally recognised AIDA Level 1 Certificate.
For younger ocean enthusiasts aged seven and up, Avani+ offers youth-friendly courses that combine water safety, fun underwater games, and confidence-building activities. Completing the course earns them a Dolphin Freediving Certificate—a unique memento of their aquatic adventure.

Booking and availability
From 1 September 2025, freediving experiences can be booked directly through the resort. Prices start from EUR 105 for adults and EUR 55 for children. Accommodation rates begin at EUR 400 per night for two adults sharing a Garden View Balcony Room, including breakfast, taxes, and service.
The offer is valid for stays until 31 March 2026.
