Hiking & Walking

Take a walk on the wild side with Coastrek

Wild Women on Top connects, coaches and champions women in the outdoors through community hiking adventures and their Coastrek program and events around Australia. For Women’s Health Week they have organised some completely FREE and virtual events, so even if you are in lockdown you can participate.

The events kicked off this week with a virtual Sunrise walk on Monday 6 September and this Friday 10 September is the Wild Women on Top expert panel discussion at sunset (from 6pm). The virtual panel features inspirational women sharing their experiences of leading an adventurous life, followed by a screening of the 2021 Women’s Adventure Film Tour.

Panellists include Di Westaway OAM (Presenter) – Founder & CEO, Wild Women on Top and holder of the world record for the highest handstand; Jennifer Byrne – Respected Journalist and Wild Women on Top Coastrek Patron; Sue Badyari – CEO, World Expeditions Group; Millie Walker, Coastrek Ambassador and Director Fit 500 – a 4-time Australian Ironman finisher and has raced 6 x 100km ultra-marathons and Lucy Bartholomew – Ultra Trail Runner & Adventure Seeker featured in 2021 Women’s Adventure Film Tour.

Wild Women on Top are celebrating some major milestones this year, with the 2021 Coastrek event trekkers raising $6.41 million for Beyond Blue’s 24/7 Support Service. In a very challenging year negotiating snap lockdowns and wild weather, they managed to harness 2020/21’s most accessible activity – walking – to support a very worthwhile cause and encourage women to fall in love with fitness.

The 2022 season is now open for registration and new 45km options in addition to the 30 and 60km options for the Sydney and Melbourne events, with a new event out of Perth to be announced shortly.
