Air Wilpena pilots, who fly the scenic routes over South Australia‘s magnificent Lake Eyre, reveal the waters flowing south from outback Queensland have now more than half-filled the lake, creating an incredible visual spectacle for visitors to the region.
North of the lake birdlife is starting to thrive as the water flows the Diamantina and Georgina river systems. There are many smaller bodies of water forming in the Channel Country, indicating the possibility of the rivers breaking their banks and the land turning into a flood plain. Recent activity from Cyclone Trevor and Cyclone Veronica are expected to continue to push large quantities of water south.
