New tented camp opens in northern Thailand

A new eco-luxury tented camp has opened in Thailand’s northern Nan province, offering travellers a nature-based glamping experience in a remote mountain setting.

Visama Explorer Nan officially welcomed its first guests on 23 February 2026 following a trade launch event held from 20–22 February.

Developed by VHG Hospitality Asia, the property forms part of the company’s commitment to regenerative tourism through its “4Cs” philosophy: conservation, community, culture and responsible commerce.

The eco-lodge has been designed to work closely with local staff, artisans and suppliers while encouraging guests to engage with the surrounding environment and communities.

“Our aim at Visama Explorer Nan is that every journey leaves a positive impact,” said Willem Niemeijer, CEO and co-founder of VHG.

Glamping accommodation in a scenic mountain setting

The property features eight fully appointed, air-conditioned safari-style tented suites, each measuring 36 square metres with an additional 12 square metre covered veranda.

Guests can choose between two categories of accommodation: Mountain View and Creek View tents.

Each tent includes king-sized bedding, ensuite bathrooms with rain showers, Wi-Fi, minibar facilities, French press coffee, kettle and a private deck designed to showcase the surrounding landscapes.

Experiences centred on nature and local culture

Surrounded by teakwood, bamboo and orchids, the camp offers easy access to hiking trails through indigenous forest, as well as nearby waterfalls suitable for swimming after a trek.

Guests can also participate in experiences such as tree planting, workshops, cycling excursions and visits to temples and villages across Nan province.

The project places a strong emphasis on protecting the region’s natural environment while supporting the traditions and livelihoods of the Thai Lue hilltribe communities.

Access to the remote Nan region

Nan province is located in northern Thailand and can be reached via an 80-minute flight from Bangkok followed by a two-hour road transfer through mountainous scenery.

There are currently two daily AirAsia flights and one Nok Air service connecting Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport with Nan.

Opening promotion

For stays between 1 March and 31 October 2026, the property is offering a “Tent & Taste” opening promotion for bookings of two nights or more.

Rates start from THB 6,970 per night, including breakfast and dinner for two guests.

Travel agent contracts are scheduled to commence from 10 April 2026.
