Tasmanian Expeditions has unveiled a limited-edition hosted journey for April 2026, partnering with one of Australia’s most respected outdoor educators, Caro Ryan, to deliver a navigation-rich version of its acclaimed Flinders Island Walking Adventure – In Comfort.
A new way to experience Flinders Island
Running 12–17 April 2026, Introduction to Navigation with Caro Ryan: Flinders Island Edition blends the much-loved island itinerary with Caro’s accessible, confidence-building map and compass course. Guests will learn navigation fundamentals through short sessions woven naturally into each day’s walk, taking full advantage of the island’s dramatic granite peaks, ridgelines and coastal landscapes.
Skills for bushwalkers of all levels

Ideal for walkers with little or no navigation experience, the program covers reading topographic maps, using a compass, route planning, route finding and making safe decisions in variable conditions. Caro, founder of LotsaFreshAir.com, author of How to Navigate and long-time search and rescue volunteer, brings deep technical knowledge alongside her trademark enthusiasm for helping people build confidence in wild places.
Classic walk, elevated with expert guidance
Travellers will follow the established Flinders Island route, including opportunities to summit Mt Killiecrankie and Mt Strzelecki, stroll windswept beaches, spot local wildlife and visit significant cultural sites such as Wybalenna and the Flinders Island Museum. Rather than shortening walking time, Caro’s teaching integrates into natural pauses and viewpoints, enhancing rather than replacing the core experience.
Eco-Comfort Camp and small-group learning
Guests stay at Tasmanian Expeditions’ exclusive beachside Eco-Comfort Camp, featuring custom sleeping pods with clear roofs for stargazing, comfortable bedding and a low-impact design that stays connected to the environment. The departure is capped at 11 guests to maximise learning, support and connection.

The one-off departure is priced from AUD $4,295 per person and includes scenic return flights from Launceston to Flinders Island, all meals, guides, accommodation, transfers and park fees. Solo travellers receive a single tent upgrade at no extra cost.
