Knai Bang Chatt by Kep West has introduced a new sustainability initiative designed to link tourism directly with environmental restoration along Cambodia’s coastline.
Regenerative travel initiative launches for 2026
The programme, titled The Regenerative Stay, will run throughout 2026 and aims to transform the traditional travel experience into one that actively contributes to ecosystem recovery.
For every booking made during the year, the resort will fund the planting of ten mangrove seedlings in partnership with Marine Conservation Cambodia and local community members.
Mangrove forests play a critical role in protecting coastlines, supporting marine biodiversity and strengthening climate resilience for coastal communities in the Kep region.
Linking travel with environmental impact
Each mangrove tree planted through the programme is estimated to offset around 308 kilograms of carbon dioxide over its 25-year growth lifecycle. In total, the ten trees associated with each booking could offset more than 7.7 tonnes of CO₂ over time.
The initiative forms part of Knai Bang Chatt’s broader regenerative tourism philosophy, which focuses on creating positive environmental and community outcomes beyond the guest experience.

“With The Regenerative Stay, each booking becomes a tangible contribution to coastal renewal. It’s a way for guests to enjoy Kep while also supporting the ecosystems that make Kep so special.”
Supporting conservation and local communities
Through its partnership with Marine Conservation Cambodia, the project ensures that mangrove planting and restoration efforts are carried out through verified conservation programmes.
The initiative also supports local mangrove communities involved in the restoration work, reinforcing the connection between tourism and long-term environmental stewardship.
A regenerative approach to coastal tourism
Located along Cambodia’s coastline approximately two hours from Phnom Penh, Knai Bang Chatt by Kep West is known for its restoration of historic 1950s modernist villas and its focus on quiet luxury, cultural engagement and wellness.
The new initiative strengthens the resort’s positioning as a pioneer of regenerative coastal travel in Southeast Asia, encouraging travellers to become active participants in preserving the landscapes they visit.
