Australia’s newest multi-day walking experience is already close to selling out, just weeks after bookings first opened.
Since bookings opened on 20 November 2025, the independent Ngaro Track walk has generated significant interest, with places for the 2026 season nearly filled less than eight weeks after the trail’s official launch.

The 32-kilometre, three-day, two-night walk was developed by the World Expeditions Travel Group (WETG) in collaboration with the Queensland Government and the Ngaro people, the traditional custodians of the land.
The track offers travellers the opportunity to explore Whitsunday Island on foot while experiencing landscapes within the Great Barrier Reef, including coastal rainforest and secluded beaches such as the iconic Whitehaven Beach.
Limited spots remain for independent walkers

Due to strong demand, only a small number of places remain available on the independent version of the walk for the 2026 season.
Travellers who miss out on independent departures are encouraged to consider the guided experience, which offers additional support and deeper cultural insight.
Michael Buggy, Director of WETG Australasian Operating Companies, said the response reflects growing demand for meaningful and low-impact travel experiences.
“We knew the Ngaro Track would resonate with walkers, but the response has surpassed all forecasts. It’s clear there’s a strong demand for meaningful, remote travel that respects both Country and culture,” Buggy said.
Guided walking options available

Guided departures for the Ngaro Track remain available in 2026, offering travellers a more immersive experience.
The guided itinerary includes expert local guides, cultural and environmental interpretation, managed logistics, raised beds in standing-height tents and freshly prepared meals.
Two guided options are available: the Ngaro Track Full Pack Guided Hike for experienced trekkers, and the Ngaro Track Walk In Comfort option for travellers seeking a slower pace and lighter pack.
Competition celebrates the launch

To celebrate the launch of the Ngaro Track, World Expeditions is offering one traveller the chance to win a fully guided walk.
The winner can choose between the Ngaro Track or the Thorsborne Trail on Hinchinbrook Island, both part of a new portfolio of island-based walking experiences in Queensland.
Entries close on 14 March 2026.
