Venture into lush mountain valleys surrounded by snow-capped mountains on this new overland journey to the hidden Kingdom of Mustang, known for its rugged mountain landscapes and rich cultural legacy. Ideal for anyone seeking a cultural Himalayan experience but without the commitment of long, multi-day hikes, the trip is designed to coincide with the spectacular Tiji Festival, in the ancient walled city of Lo Manthang. Also known as the ‘Chasing of the Demons’, the vibrant three-day festival is celebrated annually to signify the victory of good over evil and to preserve the last vestiges of Tibetan Buddhist culture

NEW ZEALAND | Fiordland, Hollyford and Stewart Island Trails

Hollyford aerial Long Reef & Martins Bay, Image: Hollyford Track

The deep south of New Zealand is home to some of the southern hemisphere’s most pristine scenery. Beginning in the adventure capital of Queenstown, hike the lower slopes of Ben Lomond for expansive panoramic views over the scenic Lake Wakitipu before crossing over to Stewart Island. Explore the remote landscapes on foot and by kayak or try to sight New Zealand’s iconic flightless – but very shy – bird, the kiwi. Returning to the mainland, travel to Te Anau for walks in Fiordland National Park’s Milford Sound before boarding a breathtaking helicopter flight over dramatic peaks into uninhabited Martins Bay, the heart of the Hollyford region.

BELIZE | Belize Jungle and Reef

Belize – Mayan Ruins

A brand new trip that visits the first marine protected area in Central America. The most remote atoll in Belize, Lighthouse Reef Atoll is home to over 20 renowned dive and snorkel sites, including the world famous Blue Hole, Half Moon Wall and the Aquarium. It is very sparsely populated – there are only three places for travellers to stay overnight – and a far cry from other better known backpacking or party islands in the Caribbean. The trip also showcases a different side of Belize – the jungle, where you will encounter a spectacular Maya world of ancient ruins, old Creole settlements as well as an impressive diversity of indigenous wildlife.

As you scale to the top of Margherita Peak, Africa’s third highest peak at 5,109m/16,761ft, you will discover remote alpine valleys and glacial landscapes, experience pristine tropical rainforests and cross through Giant Lobelia forests along the remote Kilembe Trail.

Joining in Cairo, visit the pyramids of Giza and the ancient capital of Memphis before heading to Luxor to explore the tombs of the Pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings. After you sail the Nile River by felucca (shore excursions include a day trip to the remote Abu Simbel) you will fly to Amman to sample Jordan’s iconic attractions – from the splendour of the Red Rose City of Petra to a jeep exploration of the spectacular Wadi Rum desert and from floating in the Dead Sea to visiting the preserved Greco-Roman ruins of Jerash.

ANTARCTICA | Antarctic Peninsula – The Pioneering Voyage

A polar voyage that endeavours to follow in the footsteps of the early pioneers focusing on the fascinating history of their epic adventures. Take in the most wildlife-rich part of the continent (penguins, whales, seals and sea birds abound here) as you explore the northern side of the Antarctic Sound, go ashore at Dundee Island (where the first flight to Antarctica landed in 1935) and sail through the Wright Ice Piedmont (which was not mapped until the 1950s). The ship will attempt to make landings at remote locations such as Graham Land and Fournier Bay, however flexibility will be paramount, as many locations have rarely been visited and information is limited, if not unknown.

NEW! Antarctic Peninsula – The Pioneering Voyage with World Expeditions (11 days) launches 6 February, from US$7,950 (approx. $11,850) per person
